I'm almost done with the 2009-2010 scrapbook. I'll be passing it along to Diane Mitchell soon! Thanks Diane for taking on this job again. —Adena Joseph
I truly hope your Fourth of July was a safe and fun one. Many of you I saw at the Great Little Quilt Sale in the park in Lemoore. We had two guests join us this month: Antoinette Gonzales and Edna Cadwell. A big welcome to you both. There were twenty nine members present for a total of thirty one of us crafty ladies for our July meeting. Have a great month you guys.
Pam Larsen: Membership
The Flag block was such a hit that Anna Koelewyn made a beautiful little quilt. She said if she won the blocks she would donate the quilt. No we did not rig the ticket, Anna won fair and square. There were 15 blocks returned. Have fun Anna.
The August block is an easy 9
patch using a black and white checked fabric that was provided.

The 60's: A Decade of Change Challenge - Well, the challenge is done and you all did a fantastic job. I don't know about you, but it was really hard to vote. We have such talented members. We had nine people participate: Janice Minyard (Best Use of Embellishment Award and Best Quilting Award), Maxine Kroeber, Barbara Sindlinger (Most Outrageous Award), Adena Joseph, Rita Buchler, Anna Koelewyn (Overall Favorite Award and Best Use of Theme Award), Grace Hoya, Sara Kelly, and Deolinda Rhoads. I hope those of you who were unable to finish in time will still bring yours in for show and tell. I would love to see them. Thank you again to all who participated and to my hard working helpers, Carole, Mona, and Rita. Anna Koelewyn
PICTURES OF ALL THE QUILTS ARE ON THE SHOW AND TELL PAGE FOR JUNE 2010
BANG, BANG!! Wow another 4th just went up in smoke and GIRLS were we ~SMOKIN~ AT THE PARK!!! No, no, not those funny little cigarettes but we were burning up! I mean we were so hot that if we would have been candles we would have literally melted hahahaha! Aside from the heat we had another successful year and Ladies, “we couldn’t have done it without you”! None of this could have happen if not for you all talking a part in “EVERY ASPECT” of this event. I want to thank each and everyone who took part in this yearly fund raiser, starting with our guild members who unselfishly donated quilts for the auction and made special little things. We appreciate all your hard work and know that without your generous giving this couldn’t happen. To all the volunteers who had a hand in putting this together, “what can I say, except you were ALL AWESOME”. From the set up crew who arrived early to the take down crew who stayed till the end, “Great Job Ladies and Gentlmen”. To the ones who stayed all day to accompany us to make a hot day seem; “almost insignificant” thank you for your company and help and the great laughter that was shared. To the ones who donated equipment whatever it might have been, you are so important to this event. Of course to the many of you who went out and bidded and won little quilts or just donated to the cause a big Thank You! Everyone, everyone is so important to the success of this fund raiser and you all came through with flying colors! I was humbled by the fact that you just got in there and did it without much of my help but knew exactly what to do. I didn’t do all that much and yet this event was so successful in every way and that ladies, is due to your generous giving of self. Of course the Queen of this gathering is none other than Carol Todd! Every year she is out there selling tickets for the Opportunity Quilt and she does a FANTASTIC job! Girl you are the QUEEN, you never miss a beat and as hot as it was you still got out there. Mary Jane Loya you had a gem working for you and between the both of you I know you must have done well. Good job to the both of you.
I also want to thank Margaret for being my right hand, her husband Pete who did all the auction sheets and took pictures of the items and also helped set up and take down. Thank you both for all your support. To my husband Ron who always has my back and continues to support me in my addiction to fabric and anything that pertains to quilting, thanks for helping me out, you are the man!
I know you want to know how we did so here are some numbers and they might be off just a little since I still have a few items that need to be paid for. We had 42 auction sheets plus a few items that were priced to sell on the spot. So far I have collected $917.00 and yet to collect $146.00 for a total of $1,063. We did well considering there weren’t that many people at the park, it seemed like the numbers were down as many were saying. This ends my term as Chairperson for Great Little Quilt Sale and I must say it was a learning experience. Please if your’e thinking of getting involved I would like to see you jump right in. I’ve gotten to know some of you better and it’s been great.
COMMON THREADS QUILT GUILD, THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE

Thank you to Pam Larson, Deolinda Rhoads, and one mystery member for their contributions to our charity quilts. I have enough quilts to make a donation to the Lemoore Police department this month. It is always nice to have a request for more quilts from the Lemoore Police showing that they indeed find the quilt donation helpful.
At the August meeting there will be 23 bolts of Australian fabric on sale for $5 per yard or $60 for a 12 yard bolt of fabric. This material would make wonderful backs for quilts. There are tans, blacks, greens, and some reds and have a Japanese theme. Please check out the fabric at our next meeting. The money we make from the sell of the fabric will help us continue to be able to provide batting and supplementary fabric for our charity quilts kits. The fabric was donated by M & S Textiles Australia and is 100% cotton. Thanks for your support. Charlotte Meade

We have one more month of Artist Trading Cards and then hopefully the trading will continue for the 2010-2011 guild year with a new committee head! There has been interest in switching to postcard size which is 4x6. They can actually be mailed like a real postcard!
August Theme: Dog Days of Summer... anything to do with dogs, heat, or both!
Details on how to make ATCs can be found on the guild website.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

A few little helpful things on ATC's
*cards are 2.5" by 3.5" each
*always sign your first and last name
*put the date & location of where your cards were made
*give your series a title
*number each card (if working in a series); for example, if you made eight cards “1/8, 2/8, 3/8, etc.”
*trade with how many you made; if you made 5 cards, you should get 5 cards (many ladies are more than willing to trade if they have extra and you didn't get around to making yours or didn't make enough... just don't forget next month!)
*cards are usually three layers: embellished fabric top, middle batting/felt, paper/cardstock backing
*sewing is not mandatory but hey, we are quilters after all; you can use any techniques and materials you want to assemble and decorate your cards
*Use your imagination and whimsy...it's a fun project to do with kids
Pictures of the mystery quilt are on the Show and Tell page for June 2010. The clues will be here for a month or two more in case anyone wants to make their own.

August 5th is approaching fast and our drawing for the opportunity quilt will at that meeting. If you have not turned in your money or tickets, I would appreciate your assistance as soon as possible. If you can mail what you have it would be most appreciated. We will be giving a gift certificate for the person who sells the most tickets, even if you sold all of them to yourself. The winning ticket seller for the quilt will receive a table runner made out of the same blocks as our opportunity quilt. Our goal is $2,500.00 in sales and we are getting closer to that mark. Pat yourselves on the back.
If you have any questions please call me at Mary Jane Loya, Ticket chairman
