Welcome to the Common Threads Quilt Guild's website.  We are a group of people who have one thing in common--our love of quilts and the people who create them.  We would love for you to join us.    Please check out the About Us page for information on when and where we meet.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

My dear quilting friends,

The next couple of months will be an interesting transition for our guild.  As most of you know, we are being “transplanted” to the Episcapol Church of the Saviour on Douty Street in Hanford.  The times will remain the same.  I was advised after the business meeting last week, not to park in the nearby mortuary parking lot.  You will be towed.  We are so grateful for this church to open up their doors to us at a reasonable rate.  Thanks again to Pam Padilla for doing ALL the legwork on finding us our new home.

After the guild meeting I was looking at the docent schedule for Best of the Valley.  In order for us to sell our Opportunity Quilt raffle tickets, we are required to supply 15 docents for the weekend.  I was shocked that out of over 100 members, only 11 signed up.  And even less signed up for the Opportunity ticket sales table.  In a recent email I received from a member, she said that  “ I will sit and do nothing like 65% of any organization and will be content in doing so, which is to participate when I feel like it serves me best.”  And with the response we get for any guild function, I think she’s right, but I think the percentage is more like 80%.  I would like to challenge you to break out of the mold of sitting back and letting others do the work.  We have a ton of openings at the raffle table on Saturday.  If you can only give us an hour, we’ll take it.  Remember, for each hour you spend working at either docenting or the raffle table, you will get one ticket toward the guilds version of the raffle quilt.   So please call me on my cell so I can sign you up…303-2379.

And don’t  forget to keep selling your raffle tickets. The more tickets you sell the better chance you’ll have at being the winner of the corresponding quilt.

And please consider taking up a position for next year.  We will have many opportunities for you to serve.  I have a list of positions and if you are interested in getting in on the pre-list, please email me.

Don’t forget about the future programs and events for the guild.  Deolinda has two more wonderful speakers coming up in the next two months and spaces available for the classes.  You won’t be sorry for taking them.  I have not been disappointed in any of the classes I have taken this year.

And for those who missed the Bass Lake Retreat last month, I’m sorry for you.  Not only did we have beautiful weather, we all had plenty of space to work, and 4 days of constant sewing with a few stops for delicious meals or a short walk.  Thanks again to Pam Padilla for organizing another wonderful retreat.  Keep your eyes peeled to the newsletter for her upcoming Fall retreat—this time at the coast.

Keep July 4th open and meet us at the Lemoore Park for our Great Little Quilt Sale.  I’m sure we will have a sign up sheet coming soon for people to work both the Great Little Quilt Sale and Opportunity Quilt tickets.  The drawing for our Raffle will be held that day.  It’s a wonderful day to spend with friends and enjoy music, good food and fellowship with our neighbors.

So until next month (if I don’t see you at Best of the Valley).

Email me anytime if you have any questions or comments.  I’d love to hear from you.

 until the next meeting…..piece out!

"Art of Quilting" Show

We have a return engagement at the Kings Art Center.  Installation is scheduled from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31 with the opening on Nov. 1 and the closing on Nov. 30.  (Having a Fall gallery show means you can enter the Kings County Fair in the summer.)

Based on the first two shows, we should have two categories: "on the wall" and "off the wall."   What I mean by "on the wall" is two dimensional work limited to 6 feet in length and 54 inches in width that can be hung on the wall.  Three dimensional work, or "off the wall", means work that can stand freely.  However, I'm going to check with the KAC curator, John Robinson, to see if they can accept work that can be suspended from the ceiling.

These guidelines are subject to the approval of a committee when it is formed, however I know many of us are already creating or thinking about our art quilts, so I wanted to give you some general information.   I

Pablo Picasso claimed, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."  It's irresistible.
